Ron Howard is going back in time with the Beatles.  The Oscar-winning director is making plans to produce and direct a feature-length documentary about the Fab Four.

Howard says the still-untitled movie will cover the Beatles' performance years between 1960 and 1966 with concert footage and up to a dozen songs.  Surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are reportedly on board with the project, as are Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, the widows of late Beatles' members John Lennon and George Harrison.

Howard says he's "excited and honored" to be making the film about the legendary British foursome, adding, "Their impact on popular culture and the human experience cannot be exaggerated."

Last February marked the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."  The 1964 appearance became a watershed moment in the history of rock and roll.
