A Massachusetts man was taken into custody after claiming to be Whitesnake's drummer.

Massachusetts' "Gloucester Times" says police first encountered the man last Thursday.  He was sleeping in the doorway of an apartment complex, and officers were called to remove him from the area.

A few hours later, police responded to another call about the man, who was creating a disturbance at a local business. At this time he told officers he was the drummer for Whitesnake.  When police couldn't verify his claims, they sent him to the hospital for evaluation.

Whitesnake has gone through eight drummers since forming in 1978.  Dave Dowle was the group's first drummer, who stayed for less than two years.  Tommy Aldredge currently keeps the beat for the band.  He's also marking his third run as a member of the group.
