Robert Plant is giving himself a chance to test his soccer skill in a professional arena.

Britain's "Express & Star" says the Led Zeppelin frontman took part in charity auction last Thursday, and placed the winning bid to have a spot on the team for a Wolverhampton Wanderers exhibition match next year.

Plant dropped nearly $1,500 for the prize.  Plant is a longtime fan of the Wolves, and has been the football club's vice president since 2009.  The upcoming game is in honor of the team's recently retired player Jody Craddock.

The auction was part of an event also honoring Craddock, and raised nearly $13,000 for the Birmingham Children's Hospital in Birmingham, England.  Craddock's son received treatment for leukemia at the medical facility.
