Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley is opening up about his struggle with alcohol. The rocker says in a blog post that he's been hospitalized for the past month after years of hard drinking caused his liver and kidneys to collapse.
Whibley explains in a statement on his new website www.deryckwhibley.net, that doctors have told him he "will die" if he has one more drink, adding that the experience has "needless to say, scared [him] straight." But Whibley also says his passion for writing music has returned, and he promises fans that it will soon be time to start making another album and embarking on a new tour. Whibley and Sum 41 haven't released a new album since 2011's Screaming Bloody Murder.
Meanwhile, Whibley's ex-wife Avril Lavigne has sent a message of support to the singer. She said on Twitter that she's reached out to Whibley, and added that he's "family to [her] and always will be."
